Among Italian delicacies, dried figs are one of the leading foods in the Mediterranean diet.
They have a high concentration of mineral salts such as calcium, potassium, iron and magnesium, and vitamins C and A. They are often recommended as they are easily digestible, have a high content of enzymes and mucilage, and are well suited to diets for gluten and lactose intolerance.
After harvesting, which is done strictly by hand, they are dried on wooden racks.
They can be eaten whole or used in various preparations.
